Of Glassy Affairs
Running for decades in the Indian culture, glass bangles have stayed loud and lively throughout. My walk just a day before Karwa Chauth had me binging on these glassy affairs. I was dazed with the sheer spectrum of colors that emanated from the multitude of glass bangles. Women were thronging shops in groups, choosing bangles for the occasion. Captivated, I decided to walk to the nearest vendor, awestruck with the dazzling variety he had to offer. I was tempted to try them on, as I saw this lady put on this orange set sparkled with glitter patterns.
Curious to explore more on these glassy affairs, I put on a set of lemon green bangles, and strangely enough, they seemed well to compliment my Salwar Kameez. I prodded the vendor to show more variety, and out came bright twirled patterns, beaded, and neon colored bangles. Delighted, at having chanced upon this new accessory, I went home and asked my mother to show me her bangles collection, and so obvious as it sounded, the mere sight of her treasure was enough to have me itch my pocket and grab all of them.
Mirror-work bangles on thick glasses in myriad colors, translucent and opaque shades glass bangles, polka and paisley patterns, golden shimmers on glossy glass bangles, the options are endless. I kept fumbling till I was done admiring these glass treasures. Later, she told me she had actually seen the making process of glass making in her native village.
Having decided to wear this neon pink colored accessory for the evening outing, with my long skirt and top, I fell amidst the starry glitter and tinkle of these glassy wonders.
