Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort ’14: Day 5
The fifth day of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort ’14 witnessed a myriad flurry of ethnic couture artistically merging with Western influences. Neeta Lulla’s Diffusion line was a vibrant offering for the fashion conscious women that perfectly portrayed a fusion of Bollywood glamor with chic couture. Easy silhouettes and tropical hot colors blended along with subtle Mukaish embellishments made each entry an impressionable statement. Bollywood damsel Priyanka Chopra sashayed down the ramp in a white long slit silk kaftan with a lavish dash of shimmer.
Drifting in a slew of bold colors like brown, blue, green, beige, orange and hot pink, the collection offered Kurtas with long slit sleeves, flared Skirts, Palazzos, Sarees, simple Cholis, and more. Neeta Lulla chose to feature fabrics like Silk, Crepe, Chiffon, Organza that blended in her designs, bringing out the perfect formal wear collection for women, from morning to evening.
Designer duo Shyamal & Bhumika made their presence felt at the gala event with their collection ‘A Mystical Garden’ which borrowed inspiration from the romantic Edwardian era. The designer duo emphasized on tonal thread work with Zardozi and pita work being the high points. 3D rosettes with subtle shimmer and pearls created a stunning impact on each outfits, which left us yearn for more from the designer duo. With a focus on lavish fabrics like Raw Silk, Net, Satin, Dupion Silk and Georgette to maintain the bridal look, they blended these into a riot of floral hues as peach, beige, rose, moonlight, dusty aqua, and other. For the resort bride, a plethora of silhouettes was offered from voluminous Skirts to Silk Flared Gowns and Cowled Ankle Length Satin Dress. An extravagant short top over pita embroidered churidar with shimmering sequins & pearls, managed to floor both the audiences and us. Sarees in rose pink, peach and champagne with oodles of Zardozi and Zari work added glamor. Intricately crafted clutch bags, hair decorated with golden flowers and detachable slip-on embroidered sleeves served as smart accessorizing options.
Archana Kochhar’s “Paris Amour” collection had all the iconic French touches. Her designs comprised of digital prints, combined with monochromatic black and white stripes and checks. Introducing an Indo-Western twist to the attires, a line-up of short umbrella Skirts, crisp Shirts, Kaftans, slit Gowns, draped Dhoti Sarees, and Lehengas gave us just what we were looking for as the season’s trendsetters. Red floral prints imposed over checkered and striped Tights, jersey Cholis took the runway by storm, whereas Chiffon Coats looked uber-dramatic teamed with Kurtas. The color palette included shades of red, purple, lime green, yellow and teal, as well as green interspersed with black and white. Outfits sparkling in Swarovski dust and 3D flowers were the focal point of her couture. Presenting her collection along with Archana Kumar was debutante Jyotsna Tiwari, who impressed us with her line of printed, one-shouldered Gowns, Saree Gowns teamed with golden hued Corset and Bustiers, and Kaftans.
Another designer whose collection caught our attention was Nupur Kanoi. Her collection titled ‘Noir Jahaan’ was inspired from the divas of yesteryears. Artistic use of sheer Chiffon, luxurious Lace, Satin and Crepe, her creations were utterly feminine and evoked the grandeur of the retro era. The Saree-Skirt, Kurta-Dress, Angrakha Jacket worn over circular Skirt and straight Trousers, and the embellished plunge “V” blazer-like Kalidaar Kurta clubbed with Georgette Churidars were superbly crafted.
The fashion fiesta couldn’t have ended on a higher note with the finale collection presented by the ace designer Rajesh Pratap Singh, who had the Bollywood damsel Kareena Kapoor Khan walking the ramp for him. Here’s bringing to a close in the milieu of words, this five-day long gala fashion carnival, which left us mesmerized and asking for more.
