Gaurang Shah’s Chandbali Collection

During Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012, designer Gaurang Shah won the best designer award for his collection titled ‘Ardhangini’ , which was a beautiful representation of Indian weaves and craftsmanship.

At Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort ’14, from crowning the elegant Kirron Kher as a face of his label Gaurang, the designer presented the collection titled ‘Chandbali.’  Creatively designed for the contemporary brides, the entire line of eighteen ethnic attires showcased a riot of colors on the runway.

With artistic use of deep and vibrant hues like vermilion red, orange, green, hot pink and sunflower yellow, his designs were an ensemble of Jama, Achkans, Angarkha, Shaluka, floor-length Kalidaar suits and voluminous Lehenga. Drawing inspiration from the poetry, rich textiles and jewelry of the Mughal culture, Gaurang’s Chandbali collection saw a revival of antique Odhnis and strikingly gorgeous antique Zardozi embroidery on Khadi. Besides the richness and grandeur of Zardozi, we were mesmerized by the spectacular representation of traditional Jamdani weaves and interplay of ethnic motifs like sun-moon, cow, Buddha-pada fused with Chandbali like embroidery became the cynosure of all the eyes.

His show came to a grand ending as Gaurang’s muse – the elegant Kirron Kher strolled down the runway with elan, draped in a pink and orange Benarasi Brocade saree.

One thing, we can’t ignore is that each outfit of Gaurang’s couture line was go-crazy gala for any bride’s trousseau trunk.
